About Tsavo
Tsavo is Kenya's largest national park — a vast, raw wilderness larger than Wales — split into Tsavo East and Tsavo West. It is famous for its 'red elephants': herds of massive pachyderms that roll in the rich red volcanic soil until they are entirely coated, creating a striking sight unique to this park. Tsavo East is known for its flat, open plains and dense elephant populations along the Galana River, while Tsavo West offers dramatic scenery including the Shetani lava flows, Mzima Springs (where hippos and crocodiles are watched through an underwater observation chamber), and the volcanic Chaimu Crater. This is real, raw, uncrowded Africa.
