About Aberdares

The Aberdare National Park is a world apart from Kenya's open savannas — a cool, mist-shrouded highland forest cloaking the Aberdare mountain range at elevations up to 4,000 metres. Dense bamboo forests give way to moorland and dramatic waterfalls, including the spectacular Karuru Falls. The park is famous for its rare melanistic (black) leopards, as well as large herds of elephants, buffalo, giant forest hogs, and the endangered bongo antelope. Tree lodges built above waterholes offer magical overnight wildlife watching as animals come to drink by floodlight — an experience unlike anything else in Kenya.
